Each of EGI's business units is autonomous, complete with its own president. The president is in charge of the business unit and is responsible for marketing, sales, planning, production, capital investments, and personnel.
EGI business units deal with each other at arm's length. They pay market-based transfer prices on products sold within the group and are free to buy from and sell to competitors of other Ellwood businesses. This freedom to act in the best interests of the business unit has been one of the keys to EGI's success. Today, many of EGI's divisions sell most of their production to other divisions' competitors, a fact that testifies to the autonomy of the individual business units and to the quality and cost effectiveness of EGI's products.
To maintain competitiveness, EGI keeps overhead expenses low, both at the corporate and the division level.
At the various business units, presidents engage in several roles. Besides directing the activities of their unit, they serve as hands-on problem solvers for their customers. Most of our division presidents are metallurgists, and all of them have extensive experience in the specialty metals business.
EGI's business unit presidents also serve as facilitators, working with employee teams to improve processes and lower costs. Together, Ellwood Group's executives and employee teams are responsible for satisfying the customers by developing solutions to meet their needs.
Facing the future, EGI looks forward to meeting the challenges of an increasingly global marketplace and to evolving constantly to better serve its customers.
