EEC produces engineered castings in gray and ductile iron with sizes ranging from 1 to 100 tons. Its wide range of capabilities, ability to work within short lead times, and reliable delivery has made it the largest foundry of its type in North America.
Areas of expertise
Ingot molds are a core competency at Ellwood Engineered Castings. EEC's mold designs range from 20-foot-long consumable electrode molds to 1-1/2 ton superalloy molds to mammoth 100-ton forging ingot molds. Some of our products are made for Ellwood Quality Steels, the steel ingot-producing division of our parent company, Ellwood Group, Inc. However, as an independent company, EEC also sells to melt shops that compete with Ellwood Quality Steels. The fact that these competitors come to EEC testifies to our leadership in the ingot mold field.
Our line of ingot mold products also includes:
Stools, sprue plates, center runners, hot top castings and related products used in ingot pouring
Slag pots used in electric furnace shops
Chill molds for roll makers and nuclear containers for nuclear recyclers
A newer core competency at EEC is automotive stamping dies used by major automakers. These large, intricate castings are made using styrofoam patterns that are consumed in the casting process. This "full mold" process is also used to produce surface plates and other highly engineered castings.
The use of conventional wood patterns to produce highly engineered castings is also employed at EEC. Castings are produced for the energy, machine tool, mining/crushing, plastic injection molding and pump/compressor industries.
Facilities and equipment
EEC's facility has three 55-ton coreless induction furnaces capable of melting 900 tons of iron per day. Installed in our melt shop in 1982, they remain among the most modern units of their kind in the world.
EEC's 140,000-square-foot foundry utilizes an environmentally friendly "no-bake" sand system to turn molten iron into precision castings. The system can produce parts weighing up to 200,000 pounds. To achieve and maintain the highest level of quality, EEC's facility includes a complete array of pattern-making equipment.
Operating philosophy
Ellwood Engineered Castings has one mission: to be our customers' supplier of choice. To achieve that goal, we have invested in the best people, equipment and technology available. Top technical people from around the world have been recruited to bring the latest equipment and technology to EEC for all our product lines. These people have trained our employees in world-class melting and foundry techniques. This results in efficiencies and procedures that are unparalleled in the industry. The communication, cooperation and teamwork at EEC create an environment that is dynamic, constantly improving and highly successful.
