ESS is also equipped to provide value-added services. From standard to special saw cutting, grinding, milling, drilling and trepanning. Additionally, ESS can perform heat-treating per customer specification. Because of the critical nature of many applications of mold and tool steels ESS is capable of providing Vacuum Arc Remelted (VAR) and Electroslag Remelted (ESR) products.

Facilities and equipment

To provide the quality and quantity our customers require, ESS employs the integrated and ISO 9002 certified manufacturing capabilities of the Ellwood Group. Group production facilities include a state-of-the-art electric arc furnace, ladle refining and vacuum degassing systems, forging, heat-treating, and machining equipment, and a world-class metallurgical laboratory. As a result, we can regularly produce and ship tool steel ingots and custom-forged/rough-machined products with consistent and very short mill delivery schedules.

ESS maintains a modern 100,000 square foot service center located in New Castle, PA (north of Pittsburgh). From this location the majority of manufacturing plants throughout the Midwest, East Coast and Canada can be reached within one day's shipping.

This facility is equipped with overhead cranes with capacity up to 50 tons. Sawing, grinding and machining operations are performed within the facility. Both scheduling and manufacturing systems are designed to incorporate flexibility so that same-day delivery can be made, when needed. An accurate, up-to-date inventory system is maintained to report material availability promptly to customers.
