$15,000 Metallurgy Scholarship 2019 - 2020 Winner Announced

Steen Anthony of Chillicothe, Missouri is the winner of the 13th annual ELLWOOD Metallurgy Scholarship.  He is a junior at Missouri University of Science & Technology.  He is majoring in Metallurgical Engineering and carries a 3.4 GPA.  Steen was selected as the recipient because he has relevant internship and research experience, possesses a strong interest in metals manufacturing and is an outstanding student. Additionally, he is the social chair for Material Advantage and is an Eagle Scout. 

The scholarship will be presented to Steen by Marie Russo, EGI HR Director, at Missouri S&T in March 2020. Additionally, ELLWOOD will award $1,000 scholarships each to Perrin Habecker and Jacob Wall, who were finalists for the scholarship.  Perrin also is attending Missouri S&T, carries at 2.881 GPA and is majoring in Metallurgical Engineering.  Jacob is attending the University of Alabama, is majoring in Metallurgical Engineering and has a 4.0 GPA.  

Steen will intern at ELLWOOD Quality Steels (EQS) this summer and Perrin will intern at ELLWOOD City Forge (ECF). After Perrin completes his internship at ELLWOOD, he will receive an additional $4,000 scholarship. Both will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to both our product and process improvement.

During their ELLWOOD internships, both Steen and Perrin will have the opportunity to interact with ELLWOOD engineers and metallurgists, including former ELLWOOD Metallurgy Scholarship recipients:

  • Stephen Rooney, Metallurgical Engineer at ELLWOOD Materials Technologies (EMT), who obtained his bachelor’s degree from Alfred University and is attending the University of Pittsburgh for his master’s degree in metallurgy;
  • Colin Galey, Metallurgy Manager at ECF, who received his bachelor’s degree from Case Western Reserve University and master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh in metallurgy;
  • Rachel Lukas, Metallurgical Engineer at ECF, who obtained her bachelor’s degree in metallurgy from the University of Pittsburgh and is currently pursuing her master’s degree at the University of Pittsburgh.

All three students were provided with tours of ELLWOOD’s manufacturing facilities in New Castle, PA and had the opportunity to speak with several of the Company’s metallurgists and other representatives.
