Ellwood Group, Inc. (EGI) Promotes William P. Edwards to Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

Effective October 1, 2016, EGI is pleased to announce the promotion of William P. Edwards as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of ELLWOOD Group, Inc., reporting to the CEO of the company. Bill will replace the retiring John R. Paules.

As Bill moves from his current role as General Manager of ELLWOOD Materials Technology (EMT) and assumes the role of CTO, he will continue John’s work to coordinate the development and deployment of EGI’s metallurgical “know how” across the company. Bill’s responsibilities include evaluating strategic acquisitions and capital investments, conducting research and development, assisting in technical service to customers, and the recruiting and training of new and existing EGI metallurgists. Bjorn Gabrielsson, EGI Vice President of Steelmaking Technology, will continue to provide technical leadership of melting operations at ELLWOOD Quality Steels and ELLWOOD National Steel.

Bill began his career as an intern at ELLWOOD City Forge (ECF) and later Cytemp Specialty Steel Company all while working on his degree and as a Lab Technician at Carnegie Mellon University. He spent five years as a Research Engineer for Latrobe Steel Company and joined ECF as a Metallurgist in 1994. He was subsequently promoted to ECF Manager of Quality and Metallurgy and to his current role as General Manager, EMT in 2015.

Bill is a member of the FIERF Board of Trustees and active in the ASM. He has authored and presented technical papers at international conferences and is the holder of a patent on a Chromium Hot Work Steel.He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science from Carnegie Mellon University as well as a Master’s of Science in Metallurgy from the University of Pittsburgh.

Bill and his wife, Rebecca, reside in New Wilmington, PA and have a son and a daughter.
