New Castle, PA – March 5, 2026 – ELLWOOD, in partnership with Lawrence County School-to-Work, hosted their 20thannual High School Engineering Day on Thursday, March 5, at ELLWOOD’s New Castle campus. Over 80 students from area high schools visited the ELLWOOD location to learn about engineering careers, tour the New Castle campus, and more.
The event is designed to be both fun and educational as the students had the opportunity to witness the state-of-the-art processes as well as material testing and machining at ELLWOOD Quality Steels, ELLWOOD City Forge New Castle and North American Forgemasters. The students were selected by their respective schools to attend the event because they have an interest in engineering or a related career field.
Participating juniors and seniors from high schools in Ellwood City, New Castle, Riverside, Neshannock, Laurel, Mohawk, Union, Shenango, Lawrence County Career and Technical Center and Wilmington, started their day with a 10 a.m. welcome from ELLWOOD executives. Following the welcome, the itinerary for the day included a tour of the ELLWOOD campus, lunch, and a panel discussion where students had the chance to hear from company experts and take part in a Q&A.
“We want to thank Lawrence County School-To-Work for partnering with us to organize this important initiative. We have found the event is successful with a panel discussion, giving students the chance to hear directly from our experts, ask questions, and learn more about engineering career opportunities right here in our community,” said Denise Villanueva, ELLWOOD Human Resources Manager. “By touring our facilities and hearing directly from our engineers, students gain a clearer understanding of the important role engineering plays in our daily operations.”
High School Engineering Day was developed by ELLWOOD and Lawrence County School-to-Work as an event to host students from around the county to give them a better understanding of the many career paths that exist within the company, their community, and the manufacturing industry.
